We are excited to welcome you to Edinburgh College! Whether you are a new or returning student, we have introduced new online ways of learning as well as health and safety measures to keep everyone safe in session 2020/21. Read our blog to find out more about how we are keeping you safe during your studies.
Your safety is our number one priority, which is why we have introduced blended learning for session 2020/21. Most of our courses will be delivered online only from the beginning of term.
When you are completing your course online at home, you will learn through a variety of sessions which might include online video calls, pre-recorded seminars, podcasts and Q & A sessions. Our expert lecturers will be guiding you through this journey and we have everything in place to make sure you can interact with your classmates and your lecturers.
Safety at our campuses
You might need to come to campus occasionally if your course uses specialist equipment or practical methods of training. If your course requires you to come to one of our campuses, we have made changes to all our learning and communal spaces to make sure that you are safe while visiting a campus.
Moving around campus
When you are moving around campus, sitting in classrooms or communal areas, you should maintain a two-metre social distance from other people. In line with the Scottish Government’s FACTS framework, please wear a face covering in spaces such as corridors, toilets, seated areas and other communal spaces.
We have introduced an entry and exit point at each campus. This means there will be a single flow of traffic and a one-way system when you are moving about the campus.
We’ve also limited how many people can use the lifts and bathrooms at any one time.
Classrooms and communal areas like canteens have been adapted for social distancing with spaced out tables and chairs. We’ll be offering a limited grab and go café service at some of our campuses and at the moment can only accept card payments.
We have placed hand sanitising stations around each building so you can keep your hands clean when you are moving around the campus, and when you enter and leave. We also encourage you to regularly wash your hands throughout the day.
We know there might be some worries about starting college, but we are here to support you during your studies with us.
Our Student Services team will be available to talk to on the phone and can help with things like student finance and funding, accommodation, finding part-time work, interview skills and UCAS applications. You can call our Student Services Enquiry Line Monday to Friday between 10am -1pm and 2pm – 4pm to speak to our Student Services team. Contact the team on 0131 297 8650.
The Edinburgh College Student’s Association (ECSA) are also here to support you virtually. You can now join your classmates on the Virtual Campus Facebook group, where you can help each other out during your time studying with us.
When we do begin to welcome more students back to our campuses, it’s important that we all keep looking after each other by following these vital health and hygiene measures we have put in place.
