Former Edinburgh College student Sophie Taylor has reached the final of a prestigious Hospitality competition with the help of her College curriculum leader and mentor, Steph Tanner.
Sophie has been named as a finalist in Nestlé Professional’s 2021 Toque d’Or competition, having competed against students, apprentices and young professionals from across the UK.
The Hospitality industry competition, which started in 1989, aims to educate and test entrants in both practical, service-based and business-focused tasks, concentrating on key areas such as social media promotion, business management and sustainable food and drink.
Sophie, has been shortlisted in the front of house student category and will compete against peers Sheffield College and Isle of Wight College in an in-person event (government guidelines permitting) from 28 June to 2 July 2021.
Sophie, who now studies at Queen Margaret University, has been mentored throughout the competition process by Steph Tanner, who taught Sophie throughout her successful time at Edinburgh College.
Steph said: “Our whole team is delighted for Sophie and we’re rooting for her in the final. Sophie is an incredibly talented and hard-working student and we’re looking forward to seeing her in action in this brilliant competition.”
There will be competition winners: one back of house student, one back of souse apprentice/ young professional, one front of house student and one front of house apprentice/young professional. These winners will receive a once in a lifetime experiential foodie tour, with destinations still to be confirmed.
