The 2017/18 Edinburgh College Students’ Association (ECSA) officer team ended their year’s tenure by winning one of the top prizes at the UK-wide NUS Awards. ECSA won the Officer Team of the Year Award, beating competition from another seven universities and colleges across the UK.
The 2017/18 sabbatical team – president Neal Black and vice presidents Beth Anderson and Cameron Conner – were announced as the winners at the awards ceremony in Birmingham. This latest win comes after ECSA was named Scotland’s College Students’ Association of the Year at the NUS Scotland Awards in March, for the second year running.
The award came at a busy time for ECSA, with the handover to 2018/19’s officer team now complete. Sarah Hay has started her role as the new president, while Beth Anderson returns as vice president for welfare and Shannon Young begins her term as vice president for sports and activities.
Outgoing president Neal Black said: “There was no better way to close two years as a student officer than getting recognised for working as part of a tremendous team. This award also demonstrates what it takes to win the previous award for Scotland’s College Students’ Association of the Year – teamwork. Working alongside Cammy and Beth this year has been a true pleasure and I can’t wait to see where Beth goes with the new team. Cammy is returning as a student so will also no doubt dip his toe in now and then. For me, moving on and watching from the sidelines will be very pleasing, knowing the future of our students’ association is in safe hands.”
Well done to the team and good luck to the 2018/19 officers for the next year. We know you’ll do an amazing job.
