A group of Edinburgh College Professional Cookery and Hospitality students are headed to Glasgow tomorrow to compete at Scotland’s largest food, drink, hospitality and tourism showcase.
Twenty-nine students are going to the city’s Scottish Exhibition Centre to compete in various categories at ScotHot tomorrow and Thursday.
Level 2 City and Guilds Professional Cookery and Food and Beverage Service student Shannon McNeil will represent in the College in the Scotch Beef Young Chef of the Year competition where she will vie against seven other young chefs from across Scotland.
Shannon’s task is to create and complete a three-course menu plus one amuse bouche for four covers in three hours.
The following students are competing in the following challenges:
Larder Knife Skills: Level 2 students Luke Gibson, Ruiriadh Harte and Justin Jones; Level 1 students Ghafoor Saman, Grzelarczyk Jakub, Charlie Paton, Alisha Kerr, Liam Donaldson and Rees Scott-Churm.
Healthy Living: Level 3 students Mateusz Harlos, Sophie Taylor and Agnes Kincses.
Sustainable Fish Dish: Level 3 student Jakob Skrynski and Alex Hume and Level 2 students Luke Gibson and Justin Jones.
Street Food: Level 3 students Anderson Da Silva Rodrigues, Mary Macalanda and Alex Hume.
Open Lamb Challenge: Level 3 students Alex Hume and Nikki Burns.
Decorated cupcakes: NPA Bakery students Beth Hayward, Islay Coppala, Khadijah Khaeran, Kirsty Gilbertson, Marialuisa Iannone, Megan Frost, Nicole Mitchell, Stiliyana Dimitrova and Ashleigh Ross; and Level 3 student Daniel Hamilton.

In addition, lecturer Kellyanne Cockburn is competing in the Novelty Cake competition.
Curriculum leader Steph Tanner said: “We’re looking forward to heading through to Glasgow to watch our students and team member compete in a brilliant event – and we’re hoping for a big performance. Competitions like these are a great way for our students to put their skills into practice but also to meet and learn from other apprentices and professionals in the industry.”
